Megan Plesea is the Digital Asset Manager at The Granger Collection, a historical image agency in New York City, where she manages a collection of over 160,000 digital images and serves as the liaison for all company technology-related projects. She also performs original cataloging and metadata quality control, assists clients with reference and research, and trains staff in the use of various software applications. Megan completed work for the Digital Information Management Graduate Certificate Program (DigIn) and received an ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Information Resources and Library Science from The University of Arizona. Her professional research and projects have focused on the management of digital media with an emphasis on digital image and audio repositories. In 2009, she researched Image Management Software (IMS) applications and created a knowledge base for professionals managing large digital image collections. Most recently, Megan collaborated with software and website development teams to launch a completely redesigned website for The Granger Collection.
With a background in Photography and Education, Megan’s transition into Library and Information Science allowed her to incorporate her previous experience while pursuing more technology-based work. As a graduate student, Megan was selected to work on a number of projects including the digitization of the photography archives at the Center for Creative Photography (CCP), quality control for a major digitization project of seminal LIS literature for DLIST, academic research projects under a PhD professor, and assistant to the editor of the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science (JELIS). Megan received a BFA in Photography and Printmaking from The University of Toledo and worked as a free-lance photographer and teacher prior to her career in Digital Information Management.
